Indonesian Actress and Singer Ria Irawan has died at the age of 50 on Monday 6th January 2020. She had been battling lymphoma for a number of years before she succumbed to the disease.
Irawan began her acting career in the movie Sopir Taxi in 1973, she was only four years old at the time. She had to wait another 11 years though, for her breakout role in the film Kembang Kertas in 1984.
Born on July 24, 1969, Ria was the daughter of actors Bambang Irawan and Ade Irawan. Her sister, Dewi Irawan, is also an actress.
Ria won a host of awards during a career that spanned over 40 years and included more than 50 movies. She was named Best Supporting Actressin the Indonesian Film Festival awards a multitude of times.
As well as being an accomplished actress and presenter, Ria release a number of albums including; Hatiku Hatimu and Setangkai Bunga Anggrek (with Rano Karno), Hatiku Bagai Tertusuk Diri and Cahaya Ilahi (with Opick)
In 2009, Ria was diagnosed with stage 3 pelvic lymphoma and had to go through chemotherapy. She was declared cancer-free in 2014. The cancer returned in March 2019 and this time proved incurable.
Her death was announced by her husband, Mayky Wongar, telling the press that Ria passed away at 4 a.m. in Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta.
